Right after Hurricane Sandy we - the New Haven County Firefighters Emerald Society - went to Rockaway and served meals from the corner of Cronston & Beach 139. We befriended a retired NYPD member from the block. He lost family members in one of the houses struck by the plane.
He is an influential community member and we now participate in the St. Patrick's Parade in Rockaway every year since.
