Does anyone know more of the details about Rescue 5's original "tour of duty"? I know they were formed in 1948 and served in SI (Boro of Richmond) at E155/L78 until disbanded in 1962. Rescue 2 picked up SI coverage after the VN bridge was built until Rescue 5 was re-formed at E160 in 1984. They originally responded in a converted hose wagon.

Rescue 5 original rig was a 1948 conversion of a 1941 WLF hose wagon, #290. It was built to organize R-5 on May 16, 1948 and was subsequently rebuilt in 1957. This rebuild placed a rescue type body on the old hose wagon and was used until Dec 2 1959 when it became a spare. On August 20 1984 R-5 was re-organized and was given a 1984 shop refurbished rig of a 1976 Mack R/Hamerly MR7601. This was R-1's rig previously. Info from Calderone's book on FDNY rescue apparatus, hope it helps. :)
