SUSPENDERS CLOSES.

Ahh...the good old days!  There were nights in the original Suspenders where you needed a mask with all the fire stories being told...lol.  But there was never a time you would walk in there and not know someone.  Used to get a kick out of a few of the young whippersnappers trying to impress Tom Neary with their latest exploits.  He's just smile that wry smile of his and walk away to serve another customer.  And, of course, as the hour would get late...the nightly Neary/Larry Fitz (RIP) show would be presented...with Billy Ahearn warming up doing pushups on the floor....always a riot.  Wednesdays were 28/11 nights....with Jackie Corning (Tommy's brother) behind the stick.  Spent more days and nights there than I care to admit...lol.  Great times.
 
Lots of good times in the 28 St one back in the day...Pat Brown could always be found there too....for those not too familiar w/Billy Ahearn he had been a FF in ENG*230 in the heyday....his Father is Harry Ahearn who was a LT in ENG*58 the Fire Factory & authored a few books about the Job.
 
.......the 2nd Av location was smaller & in the late'70s'/'80s a real FFs bar.....the downtown Bdwy location was more frequented by office types but when FFs came in Billy always went out of his way to talk about things & buy a round....every 9-11 Anniversary he went out of his way to host....the 10th 9-11 Anniversary had so many out of town FFs it was amazing.....he also was a gracious host after the Tunnel To Towers Runs & on some occasions actually closing down Thames St & filling it w/tables & chairs for the overflow....Gone but the hospitality will not be forgotten.
