1/2/18 Bronx 7th Alarm Box 3072

I little bit of FDNY history for all the newby's.

In the old days, 1970's and earlier, when the highest alarm was a 5th Alarm (or pulling the Card).

This 7th Alarm would have been a 2nd Alarm Borocall "no pun intended).  When the Chief In Charge of the fire requested additional units above the 5th Alarm assignment, the boro of fire dispatcher would transmit a 2nd Alarm in another boro and that boro's 2nd Alarm assignment would respond to the 5th Alarm - making the assignment a 2nd Alarm Boro Call.

One in specific that comes to mind is the toy dinasor factory on the West side of Manhattan, the Super Tender's 5 inch stang was used with such force it took down a section of the building and hundreds of toy dinasors came "flying" out the other side of the building.

For all you newby's the Super Tender was part of the long ago disbanded Super Pumper System that was assigned on 3rd Alarms.

I also remember in his day John T. O'Hagen COD/Commissioner who actually transmitted a 5th Alarm while on the Belt Parkway in route the the Queens Gas Explosion - that was a second 5th Alarm to cover an extremely large involved area.

seems that it was a ''double boro call'' by name

In theory, Yes.  However due to the large area involved several different box #'s were used.  So, technically, each of the multiples was for a different box number.

If I remember correctly, there were a total of 18 alarms transmitted via 4 different box #'s, not to different from WTC 9/11.

If I remember correctly, and nowadays that?s a big if....the response to the designated ?second alarm? was for engine companies only. Anyone else remember it that way?

Did anybody else get to see an NBC News 4 video shot during later operations where one of the tower ladder buckets was stuck leaning back towards the turntable and no members in it?  ???

I think the assignment on a 2nd alarm boro call was the same as on any 2nd alarm and would include the assigned ladder co's (unless of course the CIC specifically requested eng. co's only)

Then as now - trucks co's or TL's get SP in the #'s

How many truck co's/TL's were SP above the 7th alarm?

( FDNY BOX 3072 - BRONX )  -  FDNY BATTLING A MAJOR 7TH ALARM FIRE IN A MIXED OCCUPANCY ON COMMONWEALTH AVENUE IN THE SOUNDVIEW AREA OF THE BRONX IN NEW YORK CITY.

Great video, nice work - I'll bet they would have liked something hot to drink - the shift change must have been "fun"!

Ok - 13 Alarms, good research as we approach the 51st anniversary.

With a 5th alarm from Bklyn & a 3rd alarm from Man. I'm not sure if it was ever recorded as such but that would be a true double-boro call IF the same box was used, but I'm pretty sure there were there box locations involved.

Same Battalion Chief for the 18 who handled the Prospect Ave. fire was also the first due Chief & IC on this job as well. What a week for him.
Was wondering what the odds would be for this to be the same Chief. Insane.
As to the cause of the increased fire activity in the BX and city overall the last 2 weeks, could be the arctic weather plunge we?ve had.

1 in 4 ;)

This was the 5th Alarm fire in Belmont, as the Pix link states.
