12/18/25 Bronx 5th Alarm Box 2326

Keep in mind, we were not there. Also keep in mind that the companies were operating for some time before the start of the videos that were provided on this site. It is quite common to begin an interior attack only to discover one or more of dozens or more conditions which dictate the switch to a defensive strategy. That takes a little time to set up. Pair up engines to tower ladders, stretch 3.5”, position Tower Ladders and make sure all members are off the roof and withdrawn from the interior. To me it looked well choreographed. Towards the latter part of the video it is impressive to see the well developed fire streams and amount of GPM being applied. (4 TL, 3 multiversals, and multiple hand lines ). I hope in the near future that the job places a non oscillating Blitz Fire nozzle on each engine similar to the planned addition of cockloft nozzles to all engines. The Blitzfire is a nice appliance that fits between the 2-1/2” line and the multiversal. And just as easy to maneuver and move as a 2-1/2” (nozzle closed while moving) with flows of 350-500 GPM. Once again some excellent videos provided by several of the regular videographers. Thank you gentlemen for bringing the fireground into our living rooms. Stay safe. Happy Holidays
You mentioned the new cockloft nozzles. In your opinion, do you think they are more easially maneuverable and efficient that the old lightweight aluminum Rockwood cellar pipes that were sold for aluminum scrap?

The FDNY has had 2 1/2" for the last hundred years, mainly for fires that are "Incompatible with the use of 1 3/4"." Such as: An advanced fire upon arrival, fire in large uncompartmented area, exterior exposure protection, when operating off a Standpipe, and also whenever the I.C. directs the use of 2 1/2". FDNY is experimenting with 2" hose for use in some of the above situations, especially standpipe operations.
Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired.
My understanding is the 2" hose is not an experiment but rather now standard issue as the lead length in the residential high rise hose pack configuration, per the engine operations manual.

If I'm not mistaken is that the green hose packs?

Correct Signal The Old Prospect Theater. Built in 1912. Cant see it from the Facade but its a 2 level 1800 seat venue. 2 huge water towers on the roof also. So Your right good thing it was stopped.

Here’s a 1940’s era picture of the theater in its prime. The 2nd one is AI enhanced according to the website I found it on.

Before this job, the “Webster Cut-Rate Drugs Prescriptions” facade had survived behind the fruit stand awning all these years.

How many times must it be explained that the super pumper is essentially a HAZMAT/foam resource and not a necessarily a "big fire" resource in the same way the previous version was? Fine to say it was a waste of money or whatever but do not act surprised that it hasn't been assigned to every 5th alarm. The department set out clear protocols on when it will be called (largely for foam jobs) and furthermore when you look at the specs, it is a simple 5000GPM industrial foam engine - in the day of 2000gpm front-line engines and 50,000gpm fire boats it will not ever be primarily used as a "big water" resource. This has been explained numerous times on this site.
I remember when they used to send a Maxi water unit on big fires, at least get it there, it can sit idling, has to be healthy for the truck to get out and about... at the end of the year it comes down to how many responses a unit did, politicians dont care if was actually used or not... doesnt make sense to not at least assign it on a 5th alarm...
What was the maxi water unit anyway???
Thanks brothers....

Thank you for the EMS rundowns, its awesome to see..
When does a Physician get assigned or do they just pick and choose what calls to go on, thanks

Physicians typically get assigned on 4th Alarms, MCIs in a Medical Facility, Correctional Facility, Explosion, MCI in Transit (ie via rail), Structural Collapse, Construction, Aircraft Incident, 10-60 and 10-66

They are on "standby" (ie in the vehicle, ready to respond) for Ground Transportation Accidents (aka an MVA) and Active Shooters.

They can also be special called by the Medical Branch Director, or respond on their discretion.
