Is there anything special about the boat the Marine Battalion uses or is it the same as the other small boats?  It looks basically the same and obviously has pump capacity since it has a monitor.  Where is it normally kept?

That's not M6, it's a summer boat, maybe M4

of M.4  ???

Mike, thanks for posting those pictures of the Marine Units. It's not too often that it happens.

The three major marine company's are all assigned 3 boats, marine 1 - 6 and 9 were all assigned 33' safe boats for fast fire response - faster and can go into shallower water when necessary  (marine 1A, 6A, 9A) which are the same boats that are assigned to the summer boats as well as the marine battalion  they also have 31' emergency medical response safe boats (marine 1B, 6B, 9B) which have no pump or fire suppression capability, in addition to being a couple feet shorter, they have one less engine and the front of the boat is wider to make it easier for patient transfer, the interior is also set up to treat patients. Fdny purchased a total of 10 - 33' fast response fire boats built by safe boat : they have three 300 HP Yamaha outboard engines and have a 1000 gpm Darley pump powered by a 350 HP Kodiak Diesel engine. They have one 3 inch discharge manifold with a wye and an Elkhart Vulcan radio controlled bow monitor that produces 1250 gpm @ 75 psi, for hose it carries 100 feet of 1 3/4 and 150 feet of 2 1/2 inch. They also have a generator and 25 gallons of alcohol resistant foam as well as an educator system, the 33' boats are capable of 45+ Knots. They bought 3 - 31' emergency medical response boats built by safe boats, they have two 250 HP Yamaha outboard motors and are capable of 45+ knots. They are configured to handle a stokes basket, the port front of the cabin opens and the seat swivels to provide walk through to the drop down bow. They also purchased one 33' Emergency Medical Transport Boat that was outfitted as a dive boat for scuba operations also built by safe boat. The 33'  fire boats have 3 assigned as the "A" boats for the full time marine company's, 3 assigned to the summer boats marine  3-4-8, one assigned to the marine battalion and 3 more 33' boats available as spares and for special events. There is also a  17' safe boat rescue boat with 90 hp outboard motor on a quick launch ramp on marine  company's 1 and 9. The boats are mentioned in this old annual report  on about page 8 http://www.nyc.gov/html/fdny/pdf/publications/annual_reports/2012_annual_report.pdf
Not to high jack the thread but here is another link to some pictures of marine 1 drilling with a New Jersey department with the Neptune system, they supplied the 12 inch hose, you can also see marine one using there 17' safe boat to assist in stretching the 12 inch hose to the boat. http://www.kenilworthfire.org/news/fullstory/newsid/119385

Also not to hijack the thread I remember reading a article in September that fdny had a contract for boats from marine metal or something like that. But same company that makes the smaller boats for the uscg.

I know there was some discussion last year about another boat like M6 being built or at least budgeted for.  Haven't seen anything more about that on here recently, if anybody else heard anything about it?

Great post BCR, I'm assuming they had some kind of manifold aboard M1 in order to supply that 12" hose since I don't have any signal connection for anything that large that I'm aware of.

Marine 1 and 9 were both built with a special 12 inch connection to supply the Neptune system, each boat has four hydrant stations, two forward, two aft each is fed by a 14 inch pipe, each station has an eight inch discharge with a reducer and a 6 inch stortz fitting, four three inch discharges, and a FFS 600LB 2000 gpm monitor on a six inch line. The aft stations can supply foam and the port aft station has in addition a 12 inch Victaulic connection for the Neptune system. Each boat also has twelve fog and straight stream monitors seven of which are foam capable. There is a FFS 3600 17,000 gpm monitor on an 18 inch line at the bow and six FFS 1200 dual barrel 5200 gpm / 1300 foam solution gpm monitors on 8 inch lines, two on the forward upper deck, two aft of the wheel house, two aft of the upper deck. Both boats also have a custom Allied Marine Systems Crane that has a remotely controlled 1500 gpm Water / Foam monitor with a water throw of 260 feet and a foam capacity of 90 gpm, it is fed by a four inch telescoping waterway that has to be supplied by a hose line from one of the hydrants. The crane also has a video camera mounted under the crane basket. The firefighting Equiptment room on the main deck has hose beds for - 20 lengths of 1 3/4 (1,000 ft), 40 Lengths of 2 1/2 (2,000 ft), 15 lengths of 3 1/2 (750 ft), 4 lengths of LDH 6 Inch with Stortz fittings (100 ft)

These boats are truly something else
