Yes, but the civilian didn't actually rescue the child.

I sure got to agree with "mmattyphoto". With that very heavy smoke condition, no way could any civilian crawl around in there and find and rescue a kid. That FDNY member that crawled out of the window and handed that kid to the civilian is the "Real Hero". I hope he gets a medal for it. I don't think that you are a Hero for carrying somebody down a fire escape.

From what I saw, the FDNY made that rescue. But as they so often due, "They refuse to pat themselves on the back".

And I guess the real story is that the kid is alive.

The Sq. had the first line and L.47 made the grab. Great done by all because this was a very large 6 story OMD.

A question for matt daly-  How would you feel if that was your kid that just got pulled out of a fire, unconscious?  Filming or photographing the civilian carrying the kid down is one thing, but taking pictures of the kid as he lays unconscious on the stretcher in my opinion crosses the line.  I know i'll catch alot of flak from all you buffs on this forum, but that had been bothering me since i saw the photos you posted yesterday.  Not the right thing to do.

"gohomeosw", you certainly do bring up a very good point. Right or Wrong, I think a "PM" to Matty would have been much more appropriate than putting him on the spot. I guess the good news is that the kid is going to be okay, and the guy from Ladder 47 did a Great job.

In Matt's defense, the networks have already plastered their newsreels with shots of the kid being worked on by EMs on the stretcher.  And that was entirely uncalled for, we have private messaging for that.
