Can someone answer this question?
Some of the pumpers had the oval tent in the back and some did not. I know Engine 38 has an oval tent-like covering like the one in the picture above Can you tell me how many had these covering.

The 20 1968 Mack CF models had the oval tent-like hose bed covering and the 35 1969 Mack CF models had the hose bed covering changed to the more familiar flatter version which was used until 1986.

The original Hose Bed covers were rounded on the top then the subsequent ones had a more squared top.....the more squared ones gave more room underneath for packing Hose & or "taking cover" if need be from thrown objects....the fabric was "Hypalon" & designed to be tear resistant as well as offering some protection from a "molotov cocktail".........around 1970 there were also FF Turnout Coats made of a thinner Hypalon fabric with a flannel lining........ the Coats were good to shed water & wore well but did not offer that much heat resistance from radiant heat mostly due to the thinness of the Hypalon & the thin flannel inner liner.
