New Heavy Rescue-Hazmat ferrara

I was just looking at the Ferrara in production page today and they had 4 of them being built so far. One looks like it's near done.  How come the Squads did not get the same ones? Just asking?

Those are the HMTU Hazmat Tech Units. They going to engine companies that help with hazmat. check out the page on HTMU hazmat Tech Units. it is few links below this one.

The squads have a differnt job then the hazmat engines, in addition to the hazmat I think the squads carry some extra technical rescue gear

Squads are trained to the same technical rescue levels as the rescues the only difference is that rescues are scuba trained and squads aren't.

I noticed in the pics that they put the fuel tank and DEF tank in the first roll up compartment on the officers side; seems like a waste of space and kind of dirty.

My guess would be that they did this so that they could man both pieces with off-duty personnel if needed or if for some reason the main piece of equipment went OOS they could still respond with the second piece.

NYPD EDU has placed an order for new big squad trucks (whatever they call them!).  They will have a 4 door cab similar to an Engine or Truck Company.  The logic is, post Boston Marathon bombings, they want to be able to take more ESU officers aboard the rig going into a hot zone.  Maybe there is similar thinking on the FDNY side.

Good idea with extra capacity cabs...

what is the significance of the  green light on these specialty vehicles ? fire & police?

I believe it designates that an Incident Command Post has been established at that location.

Are those 6 spotlights on the roof able to be remotely controlled?  They look like in the picture but I haven't heard that they are.

They are pointed washer like devices that are used to indicate if the lug nuts remain tight.....NYC Bus's have had them for awhile.

ok thanks,  lve seen them  and always wondered.    So if the nut were loose the indicator would  go out of  "line" .
