VINTAGE FDNY RIG PHOTOS.

For many yrs FDNY HQ was the 11th floor of the old Municipal Bldg at 1 Centre St in Manhattan ....then it moved into 110 Church St also in lower Manhattan......next it moved to 250 Livingston St in BKLYN ....then next moved to the present HQ at 9 Metro Tech in BKLYN.....(the old former Municipal Bldg in Manhattan at 1 Centre St has since been re named the Dinkins Municipal Bldg by the Deblasio crew when they were still in City Hall.)

The first of the "covered wagons" OTJ as dubbed by the members as they resembled the old Conestoga wagons that crossed America In the 1800s.
 
^^^ Not too long after these 1968 Mack Pumpers were purchased by the FDNY the Hose Bed cover frame became more squared off to allow more room for Members on top of the Hose Load both for re packing Hose & or for protection if need be....also a Metal Awning was installed over the Back Step.

The Broome St. firehouse shown in this picture was used as a Police Athletic League site, when I was working in E-17 new Firehouse/Police Pct. on Pitt St. in the Late 1970's to the Mid. 1980's. Captain Bob Rainey FDNUY Engine 26 retired
 
A good thing about the International as well as the Firebrand Pumpers was instead of two individual Jump Seats on either side of the Motor they had a horizontal long Bench behind the Chauf & Officer allowing FFs to get on or off on either side of the Rig.
 
The gas cap on the Ward's was on top of the cabinet door on the chauffeurs side of the rig. A large funnel in the shape of a "Z" was used to add fuel. The unlucky member, usually the MPO, had to lift the 5 gallon gas can practically over his head to pour the fuel into the rig. A definite "Wheaties" moment.

Anybody remember the International tractors that were purchased just after World War II? I recall L33 And I think L50 in the Bronx using these to pull ancient wooden aerials.
