VINTAGE FDNY RIG PHOTOS.

That was why when we interchanged with 170 we only took the card for the box we were responding to. It came back to bite us when we got another run on the air and nobody knew where the next box location was. We had a guy that grew up in Canarsie and he said that street wasn't there when he lived here. Back in the 70's Canarsie was still being developed.

Must be an interesting story behind it but first thought is no side view mirror on officers side with no door! difficult to drive even in The Bronx

Two sirens, the original chrome on top of the cab and I red Federal on the front bumper? Something is amiss with this photo...

Back in the '60s (pre AC) some Units with enclosed cabs did take the doors off in the Summer...also thru the yrs (pre Electronic) many Units had more than one Siren usually a Federal & a Sireno both Mechanical...when i was a Chauffeur in R*2 our '76 Mack had came with a Federal Mechanical...i added a Federal Electric ( with 2 speakers on the front corners of the roof angled out at 45 degrees) that we could use as a spare in the interim if the Mechanical crapped out ....if the Mechanical was working we didn't use the Electronic regularly other than the PA function if needed but i also had a floor button by my left foot & left the control panel on set to Wail....if when responding i was coming up on a hard Braking situation i had my right foot on the Brake Pedal & stepped on the floor button with my left foot activating the Wail....at various points in a Response the FFs in the back might be standing getting geared up or assembling a Special Tool or doing First Aid etc.....the Wail let them know to expect Hard Braking & grab onto something.1791168599479.png.....also in SQ*41 & 275 & 126 i had a Federal Mechanical in addition to the stock Federal Electronic......blown together they sounded like the old Air Raid Siren.
