FDNY's New rigs

chicago has rigs similar to these but older and their a/c is pretty helpful but be careful cause if u use it with temp to low they will start to go on you, then it gets pretty nasty inside

The TL in my quarters was out for repairs and LIC shops said no new TL'S for 2 more years, they have rebid or stopped current order due to problems in new joystick operation from bucket. Dont want to get to technical but can anyone confirm this. TL 46 is up for the first or second TL as there rig is a 97 and showing its age.

50 Truck was supposed to get a new rig, but the rig went out of service and now it has been " refurbished" and now they're not getting their new rig. But about a couple months ago a new FDNY tower ladder with 50 on it passed by 89/50's quarters and was never seen again.

That's either bureaucratic deck shuffling, or a great story for the "Twilight Zone".

If I remember correctly L-50 got a new 95 foot TL a few years back and due to quarters issues they swapped with TL-51 and received a 75 foot TL from them not sure of what year it is but since TL-51 got the 95 foot model it has been OOS more than in service. Maybe someone with an apparatus list can update us on the year of these rigs. The refurbished TL was sent out to TL-53 on City Island after a time in TL-105 post 9/11. The rig TL-53 prior to refurb was sent to TL -45 who has since received a new rig in 2006 the last TL's delivered. TL-53 original is now a spare. They still have refurbed rig

L50's rig, the former L51 is a 1998. As per 95' tl being out of service, Mt Vernon's 2005 Seagrave 95' tl sits out of service due to problems with the stabilizers probably since day one and can't get that issue resolved. Their TL1 is still using the 1980 Mack that the 2005 was supposed to replace.

Thanks for update I also found the 95 foot rig is a 2002 that TL-51 has, the rig on City Island was a 2000 that has since become a spare. The rig TL-53 has is a 2001 Spartan chassis with a 1973 Baker Boom.

I was at the wild wood fire convention nd saw one of the fdny's new rigs and it said 88 so i guess there getting a new rig.

Three (relatively) new rigs have now been placed in the field, but are not yet in service pending completion of training.  Decon Shower Units 4, 160, and 251 are 2006 Ferraras with Mack MR688P chassis.  Training, including backup Engines 205, 156, and 297, is expected to be accomplished in October.

Yeah boss, but it's always nice to see ya driving past the house.

Hopefully we will continue to drive by, however today we are babysitting the UN as a Decon Task Force. Leaving the area unprotected for hours due to the general assembly at UN. Still no word on when TL's are coming. Hope to see our new rig E-81 by end of year.

The problems with the joysticks on the TL's are nothing new. The electrical contacts in the joystick control panel constantly need to be replaced as they always become loose or destroyed from bouncing around on the streets all the time or getting wet and corroding.
