New Seagraves

The length of service for apparatus may be perhaps in the IAFF Contract agreements, but the need for replacement of fire apparatus is also stipulated in the "I.S.O. = Insurance Service Organization ratings that determines the Fire insurance rates. A few major fire departments have I.S.O. Ratings of 1 = the best top rating on the I.S.O. Scale. Los Angles FD is a somehow still a I.S.O. Class 1 rated fire department in spite of the severe manpower shortages that exist and poor water supply to hydrants in some areas. Why is it still Class 1 rated? Lots of new rigs, and good initial response times and well-trained firefighters. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

I just googled the ISO ratings of City of LA and the County of LA and I believe they both have been downgraded to a 2 but interesting I googled Chicago and they are a 1.

Great to see photos of TL-18's new rig. I worked in TL-18 from March 1977 to Oct. 1984. Great company, great guys and a whole lot of fire duty in the late 1970s and early 1980s. R.I.P. all my brothers from Ladder 18 no longer with us. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
