i also heard this ..n couldnt help but ask ...what exactly does a homeless women smell like? certainly not a pleasant odor i would imagine. but in all seriousness why was this call fowarded to the FD? i think that this shows the lack of training the UCT have. this was a waste of time and resources as well as a danger to the responding members....got a good laugh out of that definately one of the stangest runs ive ever heard about

It's amazing that someone would even process a run like that without asking for more information.

WOW thats amazing I heard it on scanamerica. This new system is dangerous. How pathetic.

That's what happens when you have undertrained people doing the job they shouldn't be doing.

what boggles me is that FDNY dispatchers have to do XYZ amount of training at The Rock, XYZ amount of hours on training for ARD, then more training for the radio, then more training for SEP and then DD.... these UCT people have about as much training as PD call takers?

I had a good chuckle just now when a UCT call went out reporting "A foul odor from a garbage bag"...lo and behold, E305 reported it to be...garbage!

If it walks like a duck, smells like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it is a duck. Just another example of the "dumbing down" of society as noted by the late Senator Moynihan years ago. We need to raise the bar - America we can do better!! Trying is not "good enough"

Agreed. What is happening to the quest for excellence?

Do you believe in The Staten Island Fairy ? ? ?   God Bless the U.S. of A., I think we"re in Trouble ! ! ! We got alot of catching up to do to raise the bar. Sad, but these are people we trust to handle life and death calls. I"m sure there are some good ones. I just hope they answer "my" 911 call when I"m in NYC.

They should do like some other countries do. 811 for fire/EMS and 911 for police or something.

Yes Deano (vbcapt), you are right. I will program those phone numbers in my cell phone.
Today we gave M.J. a Heros Send Off. There are Real Heros that die for civilians every day. Something seems wrong to me. With priorities like that, no wonder we get a few messed up "911" calls. Sorry for getting off track here, and for the Unified Call Takers that "are" trying to do a good job.

Got this one today, Unconcious person on the Staten Island Fairy. Say no more.
Is this the story I read in in the Staten Island Advance that had evolved (through numerous calls) into a person overboard in the water, then finally, it was found to just be a woman who wasn't feeling well? ???

The other night they sent E293 to rockaway blvd and i think 83rd street. The call was really beach 83 st and rockaway beach blvd.

and why cant the UCT put the importnat info first and the rest later down the line, instead of 50 lines down. it gets cut out as: R=EMERGENCY GAS SMELL/ FC STS THAT THE STOVE IS

And whats with them typing all the "....................." and "----------------"

I'm not taking the side of the UCT's but sometimes the public is hard to understand or they don't know where the hell they live. Take it from me, someone who actually spoke Spanish before I started talking English, studied Italian, Latin and understand French and German yet I don't understand what a lot of them say in any language.
